CHEROKEE RESCUE SQUAD
The Cherokee Rescue Squad is a service organization with the purpose of serving the people of western Colbert County with ambulance service, water and land searches and rescue. We also have mutual aid agreements with other counties so that when emergencies arise we take our trained personnel and equipment to help in other locations. We work with sickness, trauma, automobile accidents, ATV accidents, natural and manmade disasters, lost and missing persons. Once a year we sponsor the Independence Day Celebration and have a Fireworks Show as part of our community service.
We have a need for CPR/EVCO certified licensed drivers, EMT’s (Basic and ALS), certified divers, licensed boat drivers, mechanics, administrative assistant, event planners/workers, building maintenance/cleaning and building improvement workers, and helpful willing hands to carry out the day to day tasks of the services provided by the Rescue Squad.
This is a volunteer organization that is committed to serving the community. This is a work centered organization that requires education, dedication, and commitment. All members are expected to get the education and certifications necessary to perform their duties. All members are expected to dedicate time working with the Rescue Squad on a routine basis. Although not everyone runs on the ambulance, there are jobs that everyone in the Rescue Squad can do to be of help.
The organization has a Commander who sets the direction and leadership for the Squad and a group of officers with specific jobs to be done in accord with the Commander. All members are expected to uphold and support our officers that have been elected by all voting members at annual elections. Within the community members are expected to be good representatives for the Rescue Squad and to conduct themselves in a way to support and enhance the Rescue Squad.
