Volunteer your time, Save a life!

Do want to volunteer? Great!

Broadly speaking, our volunteers fall into two categories: people who ride the ambulance, and people who don't. (Actually, there's a lot of overlap between the two, but the point is that you can volunteer without riding the ambulance.)

·  People who ride the ambulance: Every time the ambulance goes on a call, it has to have a State-certified EMT and a driver. The EMT provides medical care and the driver drives. In addition to these people, we often have rookies, who assist the EMT and the driver. Often the rookies are training to become an EMT or drivers themselves, but this is not always the case. In any case, we will provide whatever training you need to do the job that you want. We are always looking for people to ride the ambulance.  This is by far the biggest shortage of personnel we have.  Without ambulance personnel, we can not provide ambulance transport!!

·  People who don't ride the ambulance: Making sure the ambulance is always ready to go on a call requires a lot of work. The ambulances need to be stocked and maintained. (We have two ambulances, both of which are diesel, if that's important to you) Supplies need to be ordered. Completed ambulance calls have to be reviewed so that we can continue to improve our service. Paperwork needs to be assembled, completed and filed. And everything that any other business needs to do, we need to do, too.

We also provide search and rescue services.  We always need boat operators, search personnel for both land and water, ATVs, 4x4 vehicles, etc.  If you have a skill, we can probably use it. We are always looking for people who don't ride the ambulance. And if you can't decide what you want to do, but you know you want to volunteer, we'll work with you to figure out what you'll enjoy doing.

After submitting an application, you will need to attend the next meeting (usually the first Monday at 7pm) and interview with the Officers.  At the interview, you'll meet some members of the squad, who will ask you a few questions, and we'll give you the opportunity to ask your questions. Be sure to bring any relevant licenses (such a driver's license) and certifications that you have. We'll then review your records (we have to, in the interest of our patients and members), and get back to you within a week. If you have any questions, you can contact us or download an application HERE.
